Google, IBM and Alibaba Go Into the Cloud War With New Quantum Computing and What Does It Mean for Logistics

Google Bristlecone

Since Google has unveiled its latest quantum processor called Google Bristlecone our old fashioned logistic life comes to the logical end. Bristlecone can handle Quantum information of 72 qubits, the largest of its kind till date. IBM’s quantum processor is second to it which includes 50 qubits.

Google believes to ultimately achieve "quantum supremacy". Traditional markets for quantum computing are aerospace, defense, and R&D, the report analyzes application areas including Web search, materials/drug design, financial services, general business planning, healthcare, transportation, and the energy industry.

There are currently only few supercomputers in the world that have such a large memory, sufficient computing cores and reasonably fast network connections to even simulate a system of 72 qubits.

Qubits

What it is all about: Qubits are the units used in quantum computing to encode information, the way classic computers encode information in bits. Bits are represented by ones and zeros, but qubits can be both at the same time. This makes quantum computers capable of manipulating combinations of states at once.

When quantum computers are complete, they will be expected to work on the same sort of problems that supercomputers work on today – everything from designing better airplanes to discovering new drug molecules, to figuring out why some people today believe that the earth is flat. If we are to believe all the hype, quantum computers are expected to be orders of magnitude more powerful than today’s supercomputers, the extent of which is simply mind-boggling.

In the early 2000s, for example, people thought it would take about 24 billion years to calculate on a quantum computer the energy levels of ferredoxin, which plants use in photosynthesis. Now, through a combination of theory, practice, engineering and simulation, the most optimistic estimates suggest that it may take around an hour.

It means all ways we are used to considering as secure - are not any more safe to use.

Quantum will make up 10 percent of global GDP by 2027 to become insecure in one way or another. Quantum computers operate on completely different principles to existing computers, which makes them really well suited to solving particular mathematical problems, like finding very large prime numbers. Since prime numbers are so important in cryptography, it’s likely that quantum computers would quickly be able to crack many of the systems that keep our online information secure. Because of these risks, researchers are already trying to develop technology that is resistant to quantum hacking, and on the flipside of that, it’s possible that quantum-based cryptographic systems would be much more secure than their conventional analogs

That's why the first who will integrate the newest crypto alghorithms and a definite cryptocurrency in the existing SaaS systems (like this) to serve as a daily routine payments powered with smart contracts (for example - in shipping) - would win a whole race. The first country to get there will set the rules for years to come - taking state surveillance and interference to another level.

Scalable quantum computers would successfully break the cryptographic protocols that are used to secure (classical) ways of storage pf documents and financial system, as well as the digital security of the modern world. As we consider all these technological breakthroughs - learn more about modern status of the international transport here.

What we will surely see and would know that's the only  Quantum cryptography integrated with blockchain which depends on entangled particles to work, and the researchers’ system used what’s called quantum key distribution,  makes it possible to make sure nobody’s eavesdropping on private communications.

Quantum cryptography is the most developed of all the branches of quantum physics, and given the progress of blockchain development, we could see more projects come to life that look even further past the age of the Internet of Things (IoT). It is not excluded, that Siera will use Quantum powers for security and hashing purposes.

Perhaps quantum information science will be the final frontier for blockchain?
