What should I do if I have a disagreement with a Carrier while the shipment is being transported?
1. To start, we suggest that you use the SeaRates services in order to prevent such disputes. SeaRates is a well-established company with partners that are knowledgeable, reputable, and reliable.
2. We suggest that you contact a freight forwarding agency to determine the root cause of the issue and attempt to resolve it as easily as possible.
3. Then, in compliance with cargo insurance and to make it easier to resolve cargo transportation issues, we recommend that you choose a local insurance provider.

5. Manage freight claims before you start shipping: choosing the right amount of freight insurance and freight liability. Be aware of the extent of the motor carrier’s liability for freight loss under the applicable law and the extent to which that motor carrier’s freight insurance will provide protection for that liability.
6. Appoint a representative in lawsuits involving compensation for loss or damage to property, arrest or late delivery of goods, and delivery of cargo to the consignee File the Freight Claims as soon as possible.
7. In case of Freight liability or Carrier liability, the Shipper needs the following documents to file a Freight Claim:
- Delivery receipt of the shipment to the carrier in good condition;
- Delivery receipt of the shipment to the consignee in damaged condition, or unreasonably late; and
- The amount of damages incurred which is proved by payment notices.
8. If your cargo is covered by additional freight insurance, you should do the following:
- You will be required to provide proof of value as well as proof of loss.
- Claims are typically paid out within 30 days of being filed.
- You are not required to prove carrier negligence.
