Ultramax

Ultramax is a separate type of marine transport, which is actively used today in modern logistics. Such vessels cope well with the task of transporting various types of cargo in bulk. Before the advent of such ships, the logistics industry had a problem: there were too large ships and too small ships. Ultramax took an intermediate position: they accommodate from 60,000 to 65,000 deadweight tons. This is more than enough to handle the average logistics operation. For many companies, larger ships would be more trouble than they are worth.

These ships can be considered a logical development of Supramax models. They have increased capacity and some other improved characteristics. Despite the fact that the ships have increased tonnage, they can still be served by ports that are not able to accept the largest vessels used in the modern logistics industry.

What are the features of Ultramax Vessels?

One of the main distinguishing features is the presence of equipment on board for loading and unloading the vessel. To be more precise, these are modern, powerful cranes. If the port does not have the infrastructure for unloading or loading, no problem. Ultramax vessels carry all the necessary equipment. These vessels are also attractive to logistics companies due to their adaptable design. Simply put, they can be configured to safely and efficiently transport different types of cargo. There is no need to have several ships. Of course, this means savings on the purchase of vessels, savings on space for storing them, and savings on their maintenance.

Importance for global logistics

The size and features of these vessels allow for connection between major ports and smaller destinations. This feature allows logistics companies and entire countries to expand their network, receiving more profit. With an increasing demand for bulk commodities, their importance is continuously growing.

Comparison with Other Ships

Compared to many other shipping vessels, these ships have tangible advantages: in particular, the ability to transport more cargo per trip with smaller size limits. In addition, Ultramaxes are significantly more affordable than larger ships, which makes their payback process much faster.
