Ports & Terminals Definition Overview

SeaRates owns and operates one of the largest databases of Ports & Terminals in the world. Our company has developed many free tools to our clients, which can be accessed from our website.

For your convenience, you can find out and try all instruments and discover useful information to optimize your logistics process.

Maritime terminal is a set of objects of the seaport infrastructure that are technologically connected to each other and intended and (or) used for carrying out operations with cargoes, including for their transshipment, servicing of vessels, other means of transport and (or) servicing passengers ... "

By the definition, terminal is a multifunctional logistics complex providing a full range of services for handling container and general cargo. Terminals and ports can be ocean, sea, river and dry ports. Dry ports are normally located in the industrial zones, which are connected with the nearest sea/river termanal, and most often by a single IT-system. A terminal provides handling of cargoes of clients of all sea terminals as well as container freight stations (CFS)  and any forwarding companies.

SeaRates activity is aimed at a significant expansion of the range of services offered by marine terminals, including the storage of large quantities of goods and the formation of container trains. A logistics terminal operated by our network has significant storage space, a powerful and diverse fleet of handling equipment, a well-developed railway infrastructure and direct access to the road and rail networks of general use.

It is important that the terminal operates the customs post of the local Customs.
